Senior HR Generalist | Wayland, MA
Native Plant Trust is seeking a full-time, hands-on, mission driven Senior HR Generalist to support all aspects of human resources across the organization. This role serves as a key resource for employees and managers, providing day-to-day support in compliance, onboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, and HR operations. The Senior HR Generalist will work closely with leadership to support and advance HR initiatives across the organization. This position reports to the Director of Finance and Operations.
This role will be based in Wayland, MA, with travel to Framingham and Whately, MA on an as needed basis.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance, Policy & Organizational Development
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable employment regulations
- Recommend and partner on updates to employee benefits and compensation, handbook, policies, and HR procedures
- Assist with policy implementation and employee communication regarding HR programs and updates
- Support organizational change efforts and workforce planning initiatives, including improvements to existing HR systems and workflows
- Administer leave of absence programs for multiple states, including FMLA, PFML, and ADA accommodations
Talent Acquisition & Employee Lifecycle
- Oversee full-cycle recruitment activities, including posting positions, preparing offer letters, and supporting hiring managers throughout the entire employment lifecycle
- Coordinate onboarding and offboarding activities to ensure consistent and positive employee experience
- Facilitate pre-employment processes including background checks and I-9 verification
Benefits Administration & HR Operations
- Maintain employee records and HRIS data, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
- Administer employee benefit programs, including COBRA, paid time off, medical, disability, retirement, and FSA plans
- Coordinate annual open enrollment activities and serve as a point of contact for employees
- Manage compliance reporting related to employee benefits, insurance programs, and regulatory requirements
- Manage workers' compensation claims, insurance carrier communications, and return to work processes
- Assist payroll processing and partner with payroll vendor to ensure timely and accurate employee data management
Employee Relations & Culture
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee relations questions and concerns
- Provide guidance to supervisors and employees regarding company policies, workplace concerns, attendance issues, performance management, and corrective action
- Partner with organizational leaders to proactively address workplace challenges, improve employee engagement and retention, and foster a positive, high-performing culture, in part
- by integrating employee feedback
- Facilitate conflict resolution and help address workplace issues in a fair, consistent, and timely manner
- Identify opportunities to enhance employee knowledge, engagement, and career development
- Work with leadership on pay equity across promotions, title changes, and other compensation
Qualifications:
- At least 5-7 years of HR-related experience; within a non-profit is preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field is preferred
- Experience supporting multiple HR disciplines, including recruiting, benefits administration, employee relations, compliance, leave management, and performance management
- Experience with ADP is preferred or other HRIS workforce management systems
- Strong knowledge of federal and Massachusetts employment laws and HR best practices
- Demonstrated experience handling sensitive/confidential matters
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and problem-solving skills
- Mission-driven with an appreciation for environmental conservation and nonprofit work
- Reliable transportation to travel throughout Massachusetts to all Native Plant Trust’s locations, as needed

Compensation:
The anticipated salary range for this position is between $80,000 and $90,000. Salary will be determined based on experience, education, and other factors.
Native Plant Trust leads the movement to conserve native plants in the wild and use them in designed spaces. From our base in Massachusetts, staff and trained volunteers work throughout New England to monitor and protect rare and endangered plants, collect and preserve seeds to ensure biological diversity, detect and control invasive species, conduct research, and offer a range of educational programs.
