In our six-week summer program, The Biggest Winner Math Challenge (BWMC), you will have the opportunity to work with small groups of advanced and motivated middle school students, network with other teachers like you and build up your virtual teaching tool kit. If you want to have the freedom to try new teaching techniques without the pressure of grades, tests and quizzes, join our selective cohort of instructors this summer! Joining our summer program will also give you the opportunity to be invited to join our Teacher Fellowship Program, which provides opportunities throughout the year.

What is The Biggest Winner Math Challenge?

This culturally affirming, engaging, rigorous online learning community was designed for students with advanced ability or interest in mathematics. Our project-based learning curriculum is designed to build math mastery while exploring SEL competencies, encouraging self-expression, enhancing financial literacy, working in peer groups to solve real world life issues all while using the latest digital education platforms.

Position Summary

Summer 2024 Ed Inquiry Instructors will work with  small groups of highly motivated and advanced middle school students. Your classes will explore  innovative real-world project based learning content, focused on math, financial literacy and social emotional development.  The content is designed to be engaging and culturally affirming. Instructors will also serve as a mentor to  one or more highly motivated  high school teens selected to be a part of our teen leadership program, who will assist in your virtual classroom.

Schedule

  • Three-day mandatory orientation session in mid and late June
  • Program Classes are Monday-Wednesday from July 8th to August 14<sup>th</sup>
  • Professional Development & Planning are generally every Thursday from July 8th - August 14<sup>th</sup>
  • Post-Program Award Ceremony on August 17th

 

2024 Summer Math Instructors (Virtual)

Responsibilities:

  • Implement Ed Inquiry learning content with fidelity (there is room for flexibility in delivery)
  • Lead students through a real-world math-focused class project and inspire students to think deeper about math concepts 
  • Provide a safe, engaging, and fun online environment conducive to learning for all BWMC participants 
  • Cultivate a supportive classroom community where all students feel valued and respected
  • Mentor 1 or more Ed Inquiry Teen Leaders
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge while collaborating with math educators across the country virtually

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, mathematics, analysis or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a classroom setting 
  • Proven success as an educator who can inspire children
  • Aptitude and desire to make math fun for students
  • Demonstrable experience teaching elementary, middle and/or high school math
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and on-screen persona and the ability to utilize technology effectively to enhance math instruction and student engagement
  • Experience working with gifted and talented students is a plus
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with students, staff and colleagues around the program’s objectives, goals, and expectations

Workdays / Hours

  • Teaching days on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Half days generally on Thursday for common planning time and professional development
  • Three 2-hour sessions of synchronous instruction per day
  • Must be able to commit to an assigned daily schedule throughout the summer
  • Must be able to commit to the full 6-week session block
  • Flexible teaching blocks available throughout the day
  • Accommodates instructors from all time zones
  • US based instructors only
