Our busy, growing dental practice is currently seeking a dependable, people-oriented Full-Time Staff Dentist to work in our Chelmsford, MA dental facility

The Role: The Staff Dentist is responsible for direct patient care, following department guidelines; as well as determining and implementing patient treatment plans. The Staff Dentist will report to the Managing Dentist. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Discuss medical histories with patients to identity any conditions or medication that may impact dental treatment.
  • Document all pertinent health information in patient records for continuity of care.
  • Coordinate and consult with patients’ primary physician or other healthcare providers when additional medical input is required.
  • Accurately document all procedures performed in patients’ electronic charts, signing entries with full name and professional credentials.
  • Review and interpret x-rays taken by dental hygienist during routine hygiene visits and conduct oral examinations.
  • Assess clinical needs and discuss treatment plan options, educating patients on risks, benefits, and alternatives, to support informed decision-making.
  • Determine appropriate on-site treatment, identify cases requiring specialized care and coordinate referrals to external providers when necessary.
  • Explain dental insurance coverage for private dental services, depending upon TeamstersCare Program.  
  • Supervise activities of dental hygienists, dental assistants, and receptionist, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and practice standards.
  • Provide hands-on training and guidance to dental assistants, demonstrating proper techniques and best practices.  
  • Write and authorize laboratory prescriptions when applicable.
  • Monitor team performance, offering constructive feedback to maintain high-quality patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may include but are not limited to:
    • Lead staff meetings and ensure team members remain informed on current best practices.
    • Update protocols for medical/dental emergencies, infection control, and exposure management.
    • Stay informed on relevant dental research drug updates, or industry trends.
    • Maintain and restock emergency kits to ensure readiness.
    • Conduct periodic dental record audits to ensure compliance and accuracy. 

Education, Certifications, and Licensure Required: 

  • Current Massachusetts Dental License
  • DEA License
  • Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration
  • CPR/AED Certification
  • Other Required Certifications
  • Must maintain licensure by completing a minimum of forty (40) hours of continuing education per 2-year renewal cycle.

Skills:

  • Experience as a practicing Dentist is preferred 
  • Ability to use universal precautions when treating patients
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to make patient care judgements within the scope of the job
  • Requires attention to detail, timeliness and follow-up on tasks
  • Ability to interact with patients with tact and a supportive attitude
  • Operational knowledge of the processes and procedures of a dental office
  • Computer skills and knowledge of electronic practice management software

Shift/Work Hours:

  • Must be available to work a full-time 40-hour workweek which includes two weekdays until 8:00 pm and alternating Saturdays from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.
