The Company: Our client, Butler Automatic is the inventor of automatic splicing, and the largest global manufacturer of automatic web splicing equipment for food, pharmaceutical, printing and consumer packaged goods markets.  Their company’s splicers are used to manufacture many different products including stand-up pouches, flexible pouches, film bags, paper bags, business forms, envelopes, disposable diapers, wallpaper, fiberglass insulation, and corrugated cardboard. 

The Role: Butler Automatic is seeking a traditional Machinist to manage the fabrication of parts relevant to the manufacturing of splicing equipment. The Machinist will be responsible for repeat fabrication as well as custom fabrication. The Machinist will ensure that the quality of the parts produced will meet or exceed customer’s expectations. Key Responsibilities:

  • Operates and maintains lathes, milling machines, grinders, drills, etc.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers
  • Fabricate repeat parts and custom parts from various metals, alloys and thermoplastics
  • Rework vendor parts as necessary to expedite build
  • Read and interpret technical drawings to fabricate parts according to specifications
  • Set up tooling and fixtures for machining operations
  • Conduct routine maintenance on machinery to ensure optimal performance
  • Perform daily housekeeping duties to keep the machine shop clean and free of debris
  • Complete inspection of components as needed to determine a conformance/non-conformance status
  • Perform calibration of tooling as needed

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a relevant manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of various metals, alloys and thermoplastics
  • Ability to read, follow detailed instructions and protocols, and interpret technical drawings
  • Proficient using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers and calipers 
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with experience in tooling setup and operation 
  • Sharp attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Capable of working in a manufacturing environment and standing for extended periods of time
